Dear Members,1. Construction Contracts Bill 2010 Seminar – (Adjudication)
Due to the large number of people who wish to attend this seminar and due to the builder’s holidays the “Construction Contracts Seminar” has been rescheduled to the 17th August 2010 at 12.30pm at the Red Cow Hotel, Dublin 22.
Apologies if any inconvenience is caused but we hope you can still attend.
2. AECI Trade Show/Conference 2010 – Clayton Hotel, Galway 11th September 2010
A reminder that our Trade Show/Conference is looking very healthy with great interest from Exhibitors who wish to display NEW and INOVATIVE Electrical Products. Our Lecture/Seminar on the day is being considered and will be relevant to the problems in our Electrical Contracting Industry which, as we know, is going through one hell of a bad time. The Golf Outing (Friday 10th September 2010) is being sponsored by Arachas Insurance and will be held at Galway Bay Golf Resort (www.galwaybaygolfresort.com). Some Tee Times remain open and are being filled on a first come first served basis. This year, being the 50th Anniversary of the AECI, a Gala Dinner Dance is being held on Saturday night (11th September) in the Clayton Hotel, Galway and already we have many Members and Friends who have booked for one or two nights and made a nice weekend holiday break.
15th July 2010 Construction Contracts Bill 2010 Member's Contribution
To all AECI Members,The AECI Executive Council are presently involved in discussions with other Bodies with issues relating to “Construction Contracts Bill 2010”; “Pre-qualification for Government Contracts”; “Register Employment Agreement” and other matters.
On the issue of “Construction Contracts Bill 2010” we are seeking your input/contribution.
As you are aware Senator Fergal Quinn has brought the “Construction Contracts Bill” before the Senate, which is trying to streamline the system that is causing so many problems for all parties to the Construction Industry. It is a major issue for Sub-Contractors in that they are totally at the mercy of the main Contractor/Client.
The abolition of “Nominated Status”; “the payment process”; “unrealistic system of Pre-qualification for Government Contracts” are but a few of the issues that come to mind.
AECI intend to make a submission of amendments to this Bill to highlight the above problems. We are asking members to make suggestions to the AECI office that could be included in these submissions. The Officers will put a final submission together. We would ask that all suggestions be returned to the AECI office before the 26th of July in order that a final document can be prepared before the end of July.
30th June 2010 High Court Judgement on REA
Mr Justice Hedigan delivered the decision that the REA stands "ON ALL COUNTS". He said it was not possible to accept that some contractors had not been aware of the Registered Employment Agreement for the sector, until recently. The AECI Executive Council are meeting in the next week and the matter will be discussed among many other issues. See Full ReportAECI Trade Show/Conference/50th Anniversary
AECI is holding its Trade Show/Conference/50th Anniversary in Clayton Hotel, Galway (www.clayton.ie)on Saturday the 11th September 2010. For further information contact our office.

AECI are fully supportive of the proposed Construction Contracts Bill 2010 which is being brought before the Seanad by Senator Feargal Quinn. Our pictures shows Des Kenny (AECI Member) and Mr. Chris Lundy (Executive Secretary of the AECI).
